True Story.

This book basically tells the story of how he grew up, (like so many other Kurt books) and how he got to be a rock star. If anyone has doubts as to why so many people still believe Kurt was murdered. READ THE BOOK. If you think Kurt killed himself. READ THE BOOK! Trust me, the story will tell all. The ending is soooooooooooooooooooo uh. amazing!!!! It's a really good book. R.I.P sweetie.

About the Author
Mavrothi T. Kontanis was born in 1979 in Pennsylvania, USA, though his family’s origin is from Halkidiki, Greece. As a child, he showed interest in several instruments, including the clarinet, guitar, and bouzouki. However, at the age of 16 he discovered his true passion, the oud, and began lessons with his first teacher Stamatis Merzanis immediately. Since then he has studied with many other renowned masters including Münir N. Beken, Emin Gündüz, John Berberian, Kyriakos Kalaitzides, Dinçer Dalkılıc, Yurdal Tokcan, and Ara Dinkjian. Mavrothi has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East playing traditional and classical music from all over the world, as well as original compositions of his own with various ensembles. He has been featured on several albums and the film soundtrack of “AmericanEast,” and released two albums of his own in June, 2008 that showcase the oud and diversity of authentic sounds from the Aegean Sea region. In addition to playing oud, Mavrothi has become an accomplished singer and violinist, and also enjoys teaching and writing.

Don't let the size of this book fool you, it's ALOT of good info and decent workout for starters, and decent players. Download the audio clips they're essential and really helpful. I GUARANTEE it has over 1 year worth of materials to master and learn from

About the Author
Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was born in Wales. He was a dairyman's assistant, a political enthusiast, debater, and chief clinical assistant to Sir Thomas Harder, the King's Physician. But at the age of 27 he gave up a most promising medical career to become a preacher. He had a far-reaching influence through his ministry at Westminster Chapel in London, England from 1938-68. His published works have had an unprecedented circulation, selling in millions of copies.

Meaty, thorough exposition in classic evangelical style

The Welsh evangelical preacher Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was pastor of London's influential Westminster Chapel from 1938 to 1968. Perhaps his greatest achievement was his series of Friday evening Bible studies on the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans, a series which took him some 14 years to preach and which he felt was so important that he began to publish it in printed form from 1970 onwards. After his death in 1981, the series was continued by the Scottish publishers, and Volume 1, containing 29 studies on chapter one on 394 pages, is not only the first volume in the series, but also the first that Lloyd-Jones was unable to edit personally.

Romans 1 consists basically of two sections, a prolegomena in which the Apostle Paul introduces himself and his message to the Roman church (which he had not founded and where he had not been in person at the time of writing), then, from verse 16 to the end of the chapter, the beginning of a vast survey of what the Christian gospel is all about. After making a great statement about the principle of justification by faith, Paul goes on to demonstrate that the heathen world at this time was exposed to the wrath of God because of its rampant unrighteousness. This unrighteousness expressed itself both through religious deviation (idolatory) and moral corruption (Paul condemns, in particular, the open flaunting of homosexuality and lesbianism, but then adds a comprehensive list of other sins).

Lloyd-Jones does not spend a great deal of time on introductory questions of a theological nature, but launches rather straight into an exposition of the chapter, proceeding verse by verse, in many cases phrase by phrase. The first 19 sermons on the prolegomena of the Epistle are what many Christians would call "meaty". Lloyd-Jones abhorred superficiality and obviously enjoyed spending week by week meditating on the details of his text. These chapters include sections on such topics as the marks and authority of a true apostle, the impossibility of "apostolic succession", the role of the Holy Trinity in the Gospel dispensation, the relationship between the Old Covenant and the New, the centrality of Christ, the need of owning him as Lord as well as Saviour, etc., etc.

From chapter 20 onwards, Lloyd-Jones turns to the second section of the chapter and deals in rather less detail with the nature of the Gospel and with the wrath of God coming on all unrighteousness of man. He skips over the passages on sexual sin and only skims the list of other sins, presumably because he was a little squeamish about talking about some of these things in public (this was 1955/1956!).

Although the book has obviously not been so carefully edited as some of the later volumes in the series, it is an amazing compendium of Christian knowledge and exegesis which I can recommend wholeheartedly to any evangelical Christian who is willing to take his time over an extremely thorough study of Romans. Lloyd-Jones is always sound, never dull and only occasionally controversial. His art of preaching was such that a word-for-word transcription comes over as linguistically and stylistically more than acceptable, although one must, of course, make account for certain repetitions. Even those who disagree with Lloyd-Jones' Calvinistic and evangelical tenets will find a great deal here to challenge, to edify and to give pause for thought. The book is a Christian all-time classic. Perhaps I should add that it is finely bound, with a dust-jacket that emphasizes its serious religious content.

This year, I set out to read all fourteen volumes of the Lloyd-Jones series on Romans. The first volume, Romans - An Exposition of Chapter 1: The Gospel of God is a theological feast for the soul. These messages are a part of a fourteen-year journey that Lloyd-Jones led his congregation through before his death in 1981.

The first volume guides readers through Romans 1:1 - 1:24, nearly four hundred pages - which should be a good sign for anyone who values solid exposition.

Anyone who knows Lloyd-Jones knows that his preaching was packed with gospel-centered, Christ-saturated teaching. This volume is no exception. A few citations should be enough to attract the attention of hungry followers of Christ:

"The business of the gospel is to make us righteous in the sight of God, to make us acceptable with a God, to enable us to stand in the presence of God."

“The business of the gospel is to bring people to God, and to reconcile them to God. Not to fill churches! Not to have good statistics! But to reconcile men to God - to save them from the wrath to come."

“If you do not see the wrath of God when you look at the cross of Calvary’s Hill, it is very certain that you do not see the love of God either."

More of a coloring book than a book of signing

Should have done the "look inside" to see that this book is more of a coloring book (arranged in alphabetical order) than a book of signs. Book measures only 7.3" wide by 9.5" tall. Each page has a large picture of something (usually an animal) that begins with the featured letter. A 1.5" circle shows how to sign the letter and the bottom of the page has 4 to 6 small (approx. 1.5") squares of signs of words beginning with the same letter. For example: the "E" page has a large picture of an elephant and the signs on the page are for "elephant", "eye", "ear", "eat" and "excuse".

Baby Signing Continues

Our oldest daughter started out with the "Baby Signing ", when she was about a year old, and she loved it so very much that my husband and I are encouraging her to continue with ASL as she enters preschool. This coloring book is PERFECT! Teaches new signing vocabulary, while helping them recognize their letters as well! We also love that the pages are thick enough for markers! An awesome resource for any child interested in learning sign language!

Nice child's book for beginning sign language

Very nice book for the child beginning "sign language" or an adult for that matter who wants to start learning. I would have liked seeing "sign" for "yes" or "no", but you can create these letters using the "sign" for the letters, which are provided in the book. There is a sign for "I don't understand" which is nice to know. All in all, I do recommend this book.

About the Author
Gary B. Shelly wrote and published his first computer education textbook in 1969. More than twenty million copies of Shelly Cashman Series' textbooks have been sold. Gary and a talented group of contributing authors have produced books on computer programming, computer concepts, and application software that are the leading textbooks in the computer technology market today. Gary has hosted the annual Shelly Cashman Institute, a week-long training event focusing on the latest topics in technology, for the past 34 years.

Thomas J. Cashman received his education at California State University, Los Angeles. He established one of the first business data processing programs in the U.S. at Long Beach City College in California, where he taught and served as department head. In 1969, he began collaborating with now best-selling author, Gary Shelly.

Harry J. Rosenblatt is a professor of information systems at College of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, where he has taught for over 16 years. His background is in management and computer systems consulting. He has co-authored the last six editions of Systems Analysis and Design for the Shelly Cashman Series(R).

Good overview of SAD but not good for serious SAD study

For beginners to Systems Analysis & Design I would recommend this textbook, however do not rely on this for a serious study of Systems Analysis & Design. This book is easy to read, but the "This technique is so great, note - there are some disadvantages" can get annoying at times. Maybe this book could be used as an overview of SAD for managers. Also, the Student Study Guide provided on CD-ROM with the text is not useful for quick review of the text for an exam as each chapter takes up 80 slides and each review of each chapter takes a while to read.

Comprehensive Introduction

Ok, firstly this book has excellent presentation and pedagogy. Somebody took some serious care to ensure this book is visually pleasing and well organized. It contains a CD-rom with summaries of each chapter as well as well as weblinks, glossaries of each chapter and chapter outlines. There are no design tools CASE tools however.
Content: This book is a very good introduction to systems analysis and design: the operative word being INTRODUCTION. It paints a very broad picture in reasonable detail. There are enough examples and explanation to be able to extrapolate how to do very basic structured systems analysis. Object oriented analysis on the other hand while covered, is done so in a fairly rudimentary manner (in a toolkit- ie. appendix- rather than in the body of the book). This book is less about the mechanics of how and more about the why and why not and what you're likely to need before you do do some systems analysis. Personally I think the book by WHitten (isbn 0072552360) provides more bang for your buck in that it covers functional decomposition, functional primitives, decision tables, databases, ERDs, prototyping, OO analysis and design in greater depth and with more reality and for significantly less money. WHitten is far less accessible though, the price of being far more technical than this one- and it is fairly old now. This book is very accessible, but that comes at the cost of content. If you want deeper how-to, try Whitten...if you want a easier overview then try this. However the price is quite significant for this book.
Pedagogy wise, this book is very good. Lots of pratical examples and expositions of real life situations, review questions (no answers) directions to a web site to chase down further understanding and knowledge. A case study permeates the book which makes it very accessible because the case study I found was interesting and quite 'likely'. The toolkits (ie. appendices) are quite interesting, if somewhat 'lite'. To me, they seemed more of a checklist and point of reference than a substantive learning source.
So, in all, a nice, neat book, if rather expensive though. Look at it if you're looking for a broad overview and/or a jumping off point for systems analysis and design. ELsewhere may provide you with work of a more concrete, down to brass-tacks (leveling) nature. It can also serve as a reasonable adjunct to a more technical text, to clarify concepts and provide a philosophical overview of systems analysis and design as well as clarifying some concepts in a clear, concise way. It probably won't teach you 'deep thought' systems analysis and design however.

My Students Love It!

I teach systems analysis courses, and this book is an excellent text for us. It is easy to read, well-researched, and describes current real-world thinking in this field. It has many good case studies, along with an on-line virtual company case study that is unique. I highly recommend this book.
