Upper level text with a wide array of countries

This book stands apart from the other comparative pol. books because of its lengthy introductory unit (almost 150 pages in 7 chapters). Some of it is very deep analytical material which is appropriate for very advanced students, but most high school readers will die of confusion if boredom doesn't finish them off first.
For the country chapters, they are very thorough, and each is 40-50 chapters, quite a lot of material. It's pretty dense, too. One good thing is that the book includes the usual "big" ones (G.B., France, Russia, China) as well as Germany and Mexico, but also India, Nigeria, Brazil, and Egypt, giving much material for the often overlooked less-developed countries.

What can I say? For the price I got it felt like a gift. I don't really like this book which of course just makes it even less justifiable to pay much much more for the latest edition. Even for a politics textbook you can live with older editions. I'm halfway through the course and when I needed to use the book it is 90% as useful as can be expected.

Although this book has wonderful facts and figures, and should be used as a reference material, it is awfull for reading. The only way you will finish reading this book is if you have to for school or you are very motivated. It is slow and does not keep your attention.

Das 3. Buch um Jimm Juree - wird es das letzte sein?

... Das frage ich mich jetzt nach der Lektüre des neuesten Thrillers von Colin Cotterill. Denn ... um Pak Nam in der Provinz von Chumphon, einer Perle des ländlichen Küstengebietes Sued-Thailands geht ein Axtmoerder um. Der an seinem neuen Hobby auch noch echten Gefallen findet. Und unsere rasende Reporterin Jimm Juree und ihre so herrlich anomale
Familie stecken natürlich mittendrin. Und auch die Elemente bedrohen die familiaere Idylle...
Seit Mair - Mutter von Dreien und manchmal etwas "vergesslich" - die Perle des Nordens Chiang Mai hinter sich liess, um nach Jahrzehnten endlich dem Ruf der Liebe zum Vater ihrer Kinder zu folgen, ist nichts mehr wie es war für die Familie Juree. Unsere einst so glamouröse Journalistin muss für die Chumphon Gazette Skandale ausgraben und ausschlachten und da kommt der englische Schriftsteller Conrad Coralbank gerade recht. Ein Interview-Termin wird angesetzt, um Näheres über das Entschwinden der jungen Thai-Gattin des Autors zu erfahren. Nun ist diese allerdings nicht die einzige Frau, die in der "Metropole" Pak Nam unauffindbar scheint. Eine Frau Dr Sumlok, vehemente Verfechterin des Stillens, legte sich mit der schweizer Weltfirma "Medley" - die mit dem (hier blauen) Bären - wegen skrupelloser Geschaeftemacherei mit Babymilchpulver an. Nachdem sie bei einer der Werbeveranstaltungen zum "Mythos Brust" einen kleinen Skandal verursachte und entfernt wurde, ist sie nicht mehr aufgetaucht. Nur mysteriöse SMSse an ihre Krankenschwester Da, sonst nichts. So macht sich unsere unermuedliche Jimm auch diesen Fall zu eigen, obwohl sie eigentlich neben ihrer Arbeit im armseligen, am Rande des Ruins stehenden Familien-Resort ja auch noch als "Schilder-Doktor" ein gutes Auskommen hat. Sie korrigiert unfreiwillig witzige Ergebnisse von Übersetzungen vom Thai ins Englische. Über jedem Kapitel findet sich so ein authentisches Beispiel. Doch das Interview mit dem weltberuehmten Autor laotischer Kriminalromane C. C. aka Conrad Coralbank ist nur der Anfang einer kurzen aber stürmischenBeziehung.
Allerdings bahnt sich in Sued-Thailand in der Weihnachtszeit, die fast immer gleichzeitig schwere Monsune bringt, eine Naturkatastrophe in Form eines Jahrhundertsturmes an. Doch der Axtmoerder hat Jimm gemahnt, mehrmals ernsthaft gewarnt, doch unsere Heldin ist nicht zu bremsen. Mit Hilfe ihrer Geschwister Sissi - Ex-Miss Transgender in einer Midlife Crisis - und Arny - so genannt zu Ehren von Schwarzy - will sie unbedingt hinter das Verschwinden von Dr Sumlok bringen. Und bringt sich damit in tödliche Gefahr. Doch waehrenddessen bringen Großvater Jah und Kumpels einen weitere ganz andere Art von Serientäter zur Strecke. Das alles klangvoll garniert mit dem Toben der Natur, die für alle ihre Weihnachtsueberraschungen bereit hält...

Fuer mich ganz klar ein weiterer Treffer des Autors der Dr Siri-Krimis Colin Cotterill, der die von ihm so geliebte "nördlichste Provinz Suedthailands" ein weiteres (letztes ?) Mal verewigt. Lesenswert wie immer schon wegen der farbigen Charaktere, der unverhuellten Gesellschaftskritik - diesmal gegen Großkonzerne des Lebensmittelmarktes - und der gewohnten unerwarteten Wendungen. Ein spannender Krimi, um die Wartezeit bis zum allerneuesten Dr Siri im Original "Six and a Half Deadly Sins" in diesem Mai zu ueberbruecken. Auch kommt am 29.6. noch die deutsche Übersetzung von "Slash and Burn" als "Dr Siri und der explodierende Drache" heraus. Ein interessantes Jahr für Fans dieses so vielseitigen Schriftstellers, der durch seinen ganz eigenen Stil und Humor zu fesseln versteht. Von mir eine klare Leseempfehlung für alle Krimifans mit Sinn für Mr Cotterills englischen Humor.

Aimed at the Non-Professional

It may come as a surprise to learn that non-profits account for some 1/7 of the US economy. Non-profits vary from huge operations like the major museums, universities and foundations down to the local theatre group putting on a play once or twice a year.

As a non-profit grows, so do the requirements for financial management. The organization may begin to get a variety of assets, there may be needs to manage investments or trust funds, there may be debts, and of course there is fundraising.

The other side of this is a requirement for financial reporting, not the least of which is the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley which had increased the responsibilites placed upon the management.

This book is aimed at the financial manager who may have gotten the responsibility without formal training, business-only- training and of course too little time and too few support staff to do the job. It is specifically aimed at the small, resourse-constrained organization, as well as for larger operations.

This is a very complete book, not all of which will be needed by most organizations, but which may become more important as the organization grows.

So many of us enter the third sector with a lot of passion for our particular interest, but not much know-how of the specific financial issues facing nonprofits. This book is one stop shopping for the beginner and the seasoned ED or Development Director.

About the Author
Internationally recognized as a Bible scholar and spiritual patriarch, Derek Prince (1915–2003) was educated as a scholar of classical languages at Eton College and Cambridge University in England, and later at Hebrew University in Israel. While serving with the British army in World War II, he began to study the Bible as a philosophical work and, as a result, experienced a life–changing encounter with Jesus Christ. Derek Prince taught and ministered on six continents for more than sixty years, imparting God's revealed truth, praying for the sick and afflicted, and sharing his prophetic insights into world events in the light of Scripture. quick read, awesome

The shortest explanation of fasting I've ever read. REALLY good examples from scripture. I highly recommend.

If you are looking for something shorter and references to lots of scripture on fasting, Derek Prince's book is the way to go! You could easily read this booklet in an hour.

(If you want a really meaty discussion with lots of personal examples, check out Mahesh Chavda's book "The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting" If you are seeking to draw closer to Christ's heart, I highly recommend reading Bob Sorge's "Secrets of the Secret Place")

Fasting is incredible. I am so shocked at how often fasting is discussed in scripture. It is like adding a thermonuclear warhead to your prayers. It humbles you and draws you closer to Christ's heart!

Derek shows that God requires that we HUMBLE ourselves before Him; God also makes it clear that He gives grace or blessings (unmerited favor) to the HUMBLE. Can you use a blessing from the Lord?

If you wanted to cultivate true humility but did not know how, this is the book for you. Succinct, Scripture-based, practical and powerful, this book is fast-paced and very brief. It has given me the clearest and most convincing reason to fast.
