"Not since Nora Roberts has anyone been able to write a big family romance series with every book as good as the last. Bella Andre never disappoints." ~ Laura, The Revolving Bookcase Reviews BOOK DESCRIPTION: Dylan Sullivan, a renowned boat builder, has spent his entire life sailing around the world. But while he’s always enjoyed the freedom of the ocean, when Grace Adrian shows up at his Seattle boathouse to interview him for a magazine, it’s love at first sight. Love for both Grace and her ten-month-old son, Mason, with whom Dylan has an immediate bond. And every moment they spend together makes Dylan more and more certain that a love like theirs is worth risking everything for. A year and a half ago, Grace’s entire world turned upside down. Not only did she learn that she was pregnant, she also found out that she was nothing but a dirty little secret to her boyfriend and his elite Washington D.C. family. Since then, Grace has been rebuilding her life in Seattle, giving one hundred percent of her attention to her son and her freelance writing career. Believing she can never risk her heart—or her son’s—again, especially to a man like Dylan who could sail away at any moment, Grace tries desperately to guard her heart from the charismatic and sexy sailor. For as sweet and protective as Dylan is during the day, at night when one incredibly hot kiss turns into so much more, Grace simply can’t find a way to keep from tumbling into his arms again and again. But can she ever learn to trust in love again? I LOVE HOW YOU LOVE ME is part of Bella Andre's New York Times and USA Today #1 bestselling Sullivan series. While it can easily be read as a stand-alone story, you'll likely enjoy reading the earlier Sullivan books, too.

I'd love to go sailing with Dylan!!
By Patsy
Like some other reviewers, I'm completely addicted to the Sullivans... I pre-ordered this one and read it all within 24 hours of getting it. Dylan was unexpectedly sweet and I loved him from the start. I'd sure love to go sailing with him!! Grace was the perfect complement to him... beautiful (of course!) but smart, strong, and independent... maybe TOO independent! (But that's what makes the story!)

Like all of Bella's books, there are some wonderful, hot and steamy scenes in this story, along with just about the right amount of conflict to triumph over. My only complaint would be that when we reached the story's climax, it actually ended a little too quickly for me! The story was so well-woven that it just seemed as if I needed a little more substance as it wrapped up...

Still, it's a very satisfying read. Really fun to see the other Sullivans coming back into the story in various ways... that's what makes the series so addicting, after all! If you've read the others in the series, this is a do-not-miss, but if you haven't, you'll enjoy this more if you start with the first one - or at the very least start with Rafe and the other Seattle Sullivans.

Another beautiful Sullivan!
By mommy belongs
Ok- started and finished today. I could NOT put it down. Dylan Sullivan - sailor and Boat builder. An amazing man raised with/by a phenomenal family- meets Grace and her son, Mason when she wants to write about him for a magazine.

Grace has been burned and has a wall around her heart. Leave it to a Sullivan to tear it down. Their chemistry is on fire...they have that special magnetic relationship from day one. They are nice people with a great passionate fire burning beneath the surface. And together, they are quite a team.

This family- I love it. I wish I knew a family like theirs. I am hooked on this series and as always, Bella Andre writes impeccably. It's sweet, loving, happy and scorching hot, of course. She is one of the best!

Great book-- hope more family members come out of the woodwork so this series doesn't end soon!!

Bella Does it Again!
By bibliophile
Bella does it again, with a sweet installment in her Sullivan's series. Dylan has waited to find love as he watched his siblings and cousins fall for the real thing. But when he sees it, there is no waffling on his part. He falls quickly, and hard and spends the rest of the book proving to his lady love that he is the real thing, and he thinks the world of her, and her sweet son, Mason. A fast read as you get caught up in Dylan's story, and then you'll want to go back and read both Mia and Ian's stories, so you recall once again, how those two tales fit with this one. If you love good storytelling, romance, and in this case, boats, you won't want to miss, I Love How You Love Me!

Nation & Narration, by Homi K Bhabha

Bhabha, in his preface, writes 'Nations, like narratives, lose their origins in the myths of time and only fully encounter their horizons in the mind's eye'.

From this seemingly impossibly metaphorical beginning, this volume confronts the realities of the concept of nationhood as it is lived and the profound ambivalence of language as it is written. From Gillian Beer's reading of Virginia Woolf, Rachel Bowlby's cultural history of Uncle Tom's Cabin and Francis Mulhern's study of Leaviste's 'English ethics'; to Doris Sommer's study of the 'magical realism' of Latin American fiction and Sneja Gunew's analysis of Australian writing, Nation and Narration is a celebration of the fact that English is no longer an English national consciousness, which is not nationalist, but is the only thing that will give us an international dimension.

articulating postcolonial experience
By A Customer
If there's one thing that this book offers it is the articulation of gaps and fissures that have been long denied and silenced by the grand narratives of history operating in the hegemonic code of linear western imperialism. This book speaks to us in a special way by virtue of our colonial experience which allows us to question the very foundation of most historical discourses that have been in our curricula and educational system. Reading Bhabha's article DissemiNation, enlightens one in the boundaries and margins of the discourses together with their historical contingencies. Along with The Location of Culture one cannot truly understand postcolonial experience without referring to these books by Homi K. Bhabha.

Homi K. Bhabha
By C Graham
How unfortunate that the previous reviewer had to resort to questioning a fellow reader's intellect and ability to read what is undoubtedly a complicately structured text. This type of comment epitimises the elitism that Bhabha is himself charged with. The inaccessability of this text to the wide majority of readers(and that is not due to a need for reading classes) has left Bhabha's 'liminal space' an area of discussion accessible only to a handful of individuals whose academic capital apparently surpasses that of their humility. There is no attempt made at any point in this book to explain what are undoubdtedly fascinating concepts in laymans terms, thereby excluding the vast majority of readers of all social strata for whom reading is a pleasure and not a struggle .

Response to "dislike"-ing Postcolonial Theory
By Amazon Customer
part of the problem of the review one of the readers has left is the reading as the non-European world as "the periphery". Thank you for so neatly exemplifying the point of postcolonial studies with your sweeping simplification about an entire discourse, because you "dislike it".
No, I dont think you should read Bhabha, because you're missing the entire point quite thoroughly.

On Education: Conversations with Riccardo Mazzeo, by Zygmunt Bauman, Riccardo Mazzeo

What is the role of education in a world where we no longer have a clear vision of the future and where the idea of a single, universal model of humanity seems like the residue of a bygone age? What role should educators play in a world where young people find themselves faced with deep uncertainty about their future, where the prospects of securing a stable, long-term career seem increasingly remote and where intensified population movements have created more diverse communities in which different cultures find themselves living side by side, no longer bound together by the belief that the other would eventually be assimilated into ‘our' culture?

Faced with the bewildering features of our liquid modern world, many young people are inclined to withdraw - in some cases into the online world of games and virtual relationships, in other cases into anorexia, depression, alcohol or even drug abuse, hoping to find shelter from a world perceived as more and more dangerous. Others launch into more violent forms of behaviour, like street gangs and the looting carried out by young people who have been excluded from the temples of consumption but are eager to participate in the ceremony. And all this happens while our politicians look on, uncomprehending and indifferent.

In this short book Zygmunt Bauman - the leading social theorist of our liquid modern world, here in conversation with Riccardo Mazzeo - reflects on the predicament of young people today and on the role of education and the educator in a world where the certainties of our predecessors can no longer be taken for granted.

Review
"Bauman's knack for placing things in context and accounting for that uneasy feeling you get from this or that current development makes [On Education] stimulating."
Inside Higher Ed

"When graduates can't find jobs, the bargain of commercialised education – take out enormous student loans that will be repaid by your supposedly high salary later on – breaks down. So worries the sociologist Bauman, in a perky and colourful written interview with the Italian publisher Mazzeo. Even so, Bauman remains hopeful about the 'openness' of mind ideally encouraged by schooling – indeed, as he points out sharply, it is not 'practical' otherwise."
Steven Poole, The Guardian

important considerations for anyone involved in education from teachers and administrators and professors to parents and kids
By Love Thy Enemy
As US education goes the wrong way towards merit pay and more testing, we must consider this philosophical treatise on education. Why school? Find out here and realize to our horror how far the Republican politicians bring us the wrong way again even here, hating our teachers and our students and looking to turn a temporary profit.

Extraordinary insights from one of the greatest thinkers of our time
By Malvin
"On Education" is a fascinating discussion by the Italian editor, Ricardo Mazzeo with Zygmunt Bauman, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Leeds. Professor Bauman is the famed octogenarian theorist of the 'liquid modern' (postmodern) era whose influential writings have inspired many within the anti-globalization movement. In this accessible book, Mr. Mazzeo and Professor Bauman discuss the struggles of youth, education and neoliberalism with extraordinary clarity, insight and perspective.

Mr. Mazzeo challenges Professor Bauman with twenty issues including life-long education, immigration, consumerism, culture, austerity, financial meltdown, the London riots of 2011, the Arab Spring, the Internet, and more. The articles consist of thoughtful written (not verbal) exchanges that range from a few pages to as many as 15 pages each. Professor Bauman's extraordinary life experiences and decades of study allow him to reflect on our current predicament as only he can.

Full of wisdom and hope, Mr. Mazzeo and Professor Bauman's brief but engaging book is highly recommended to everyone who wants to better understand our liquid modern world.

Between Mixophilia and Mixophobia
By Robin Friedman
Zygmunt Bauman (b. 1925) has enjoyed a long academic and writing career in his native Poland, Israel, and Leeds. He was forced out of Poland in 1968 as a result of Anti-semitism. He contined his prolific writing in English, his third language. Bauman began his career and remains heavily influenced by Marxism. He has become best-known for his critique of postmodernism and for his use of the metaphors of "liquid" and "liquidity" or "software" as opposed to "hardware" to describe the modern world. His books have titles such as "Liquid Modernity", "Liquid Life", "Liquid Love", "Liquid Fear", "Liquid Times". Bauman is currently Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Leeds. I have not read Bauman before but became interested in this book because it claimed to discuss the changing role of education in the modern world.

"On Education" is a series of twenty short exchanges of views between Bauman and Riccardo Mazzeo, an editor at the Italian publisher Edizioni Erickson. I had no prior knowledge about Mazzeo. In each of the chapters, Mazzeo begins the discussion by identifying the subject matter and by making a brief statement. Bauman follows with a longer statement in which he comments on Mazzeo and expands upon his own views. Part of the problem with this approach is that in context it is static. There are no real differences of opinion between Mazzeo and Bauman that could create an exchange. Bauman generally simply reinforce and elaborates the position taken by his interlocutor.

Another issue with the book is its scope. Many of twenty chapters do discuss education and its role at the primary, secondary and college levels, and a great deal of the discussion is thoughtful. But the book is much more sweeping. It begins with an exchange called "Between Mixophilia and Mixophobia" which discusses attitudes towards immigration once an assimilationist model is discarded. Mixophobics fear involvement with foreigners while mixophiliacs find joy in an atmosphere consisting of many diverse elements. Bauman and Mazzeo want to change the contours of the dichotomy. Part of their discussion involves the recognition of difference among groups within the school system. The discussion focuses on Europe but it would apply as well to the United States.

Besides the emphasis of multiculturalism, the book emphasizes economics and change. Several chapters discuss the financial meltdown and near-depression while several chapters discuss as well the increasing disparity in income between rich and poor people and the hardening of class lines. There are chapters about people taking to the streets as part of the "Arab Spring" and as part of London riots in the summer of 2011. Bauman and Mazzeo discuss religion, monotheism and the need for transcendence even though neither of them is creedally religious. They have important things to say about family and community. But overall, the topic pervading the book is consumerism -- people defining themselves by quick fixes and by pleasure and by increasing consumption.

Bauman displays formidable erudition. It is a pleasure to read his thoughts on a varied group of writers and intellectuals including Jose Saramongo, Gregory Bateson, George Steiner, Hans Gadamer,Martha Nussbaum, Amin Maalouf, Richard Sennett, and many others, including current European writers with whom I am unfamiliar.

The scope of the volume is far too broad and the discussion too free-wheeling and too ideological to be persuasive. With each chapter receiving only a few pages, the treatment can only be cursory. Bauman displays great knowledge and frequent insight, as when he laments the passing of family closeness, a spirit of community, and sexual restraint. The tone however tends more often to be dogmatic and premptory and the writing purple and polemical. The book seems to reach preordained conclusions, and it fails to grapple with specifics and with alternative ways of understanding problems. The overall conclusion, that change may come from directions and sources that cannot immediately be forseen is surprisingly modest.

The bluster and dogmatism of this book left me troubled and unconvinced, although I did learn from some of the details. This book might not be the best introduction to Bauman. Possibly Bauman might be better approached through one of his longer works, in his own voice. He might benefit from having the opportunity to present his views in depth rather than in the sketchy conclusory manner of this book. Overall, I found this book disappointing.
